MYSURU : Haragopal, member of the presidential committee of All-India Forum for Right to Education (AIFRE), has one poser to the authorities concerned: "If the government can run Navodaya and central schools successfully, why can't it provide quality education in village schools?"Speaking at a seminar at BM Shri auditorium, UoM, organized by AIFRE on Tuesday, Haragopal said that corporate world has taken over education. "It is a threat to our education system as they mean only business. Our education system is in crisis. To help the corporates, the government is deliberately destroying schools," Haraagopal said, adding: "Around 80-90% of children in India can't access quality education. Democracy will survive only if every student gets access to quality education."
Speaking about privatization of higher education, he said: "There is a nexus between government and tycoons. Because of this, many private universities are mushrooming across the country. The government is not showing interest in filling vacancies in older universities. However, it gives permission to foreign universities to set shop here."
