Mysuru: Educational institutions in the old Mysuru region except Shivamogga functioned as usual on Tuesday and no untoward incidents were reported.
As a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders were imposed in all districts besides tight police security in several areas. A holiday was declared for educational institutions in Shivamogga.
In Mysuru, SDPI state president Abdul Majeed said the high court judgment on hijab didn’t take the personal and fundamental rights of the individual into consideration.

“Hijab is a constitutional and personal right. It is sad that the high court didn’t recognize it,” he said.
In Mysuru, all PU colleges functioned as usual. No student has missed the II PUC practical examination due to the controversy till now, said DDPU DK Srinivasamurthy. City police commissioner Chandragupta said the city was peaceful.
In Shivamogga, rural development and panchayat raj minister KS Eshwarappa and Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra welcomed the high court verdict. Eshwarappa said those who support the hijab should now rethink.
“Some students have missed practical exams which are important for their career. They should attend classes immediately while following the guidelines. People who instigated the protests should tell the students to attend classes. Everyone should obey the order and the government will do best for Muslim girls’ education,” Eshwarappa said.
Raghavendra also requested the girls to attend classes while following government guidelines.
Maulana Shahul Hameed, however, expressed disappointment with the judgment. He took exception to the HC’s assertion that the hijab is not an essential part of Islam. “I request the Muslim community to be patient,” he said, adding the matter will be taken to the apex court.
