maharajas in singular and saying the royals carried out welfare work by collecting taxes from people and not by spending from their pockets has kicked up a controversy. While the royal scion, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, refused to comment on the statement, the BJP demanded an apology.

The statement was purportedly made when a delegation of corporators led by mayor

met Siddaramaiah at his residence in Mysuru on August 30, seeking his intervention to get two projects cleared by the urban development department. The delegation told the CM that the maharajas had developed Mysuru as a planned city and similar planning should be done in future as well.The CM then shot back, saying the maharaja didn't fund the projects with his money, referring to the latter in singular. “He (the king) didn't bring money from his home,“ he said.
