Mysuru: The Congress will face the assembly polls in 2018 under the leadership of chief minister Siddaramaiah, the party's general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Digvijaya Singh, said on Sunday, seeking to cap the demand to replace the CM with a dalit leader.

Siddaramaiah was initially not inclined to contest the polls, but he reconsidered it later, Digvijaya said.

Asked about the demand from a section of the party to replace Siddaramaiah with a Dalit leader, he said newly elected MLAs will decide about it at the Congress legislator party meeting after the polls in 2018.

Digvijaya said the CM will decide about reshuffle of his ministry.

Digvijaya, along with his family members, visited Sri Chamudneshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills and later visited the Mysuru Palace. Congress MLA Vasu accompanied him.

Asked about the cross-voting by JD(S) legislators in the Rajya Sabha polls, Singh said the Congress has not lured them. "They were upset with their party leadership and have supported us," he said. Asserting that there would be no quid pro quo, he said, "The JD(S) MLAs who supported us have not been promised anything."
