City jewellers step up security after jewellery shop heist
Mysuru: Jewellers in Mysuru are on alert following a jewellery shop heist, with many in the trade being urged to review and strengthen their security systems immediately.The incident raised concerns about organised thefts targeting high-value stock, particularly during quieter trading hours and overnight periods. Jewellers were advised to carry out urgent checks on existing protections, identify weak points, and upgrade security equipment needed to reduce risk of repeat attack.Amarnath CS, president of Shroff Merchants Association, advised jewellers to step up security measures with advanced equipments and additional security personnel to prevent such incidents in jewellery stores. "I was in the business for the last 6 decades, and we're cautious and regularly review safety measures. Even in Mysuru city, all jewellers follow strict safety measures, which prevents any crimes.""We work closely with police and obey all their orders without fail, especially during celebratory processions or protests, or during large gathering of crowd. We share all instructions given by city police through our WhatsAppin the community, and take measures accordingly," explained the president.Amarnath said Mysuru district has more than 1,200 jewellers, including 750 in Mysuru City alone.Eight kilo gold missingMysuru district police, who are probing the Hunsur jeweller shop heist, received a complaint from Synuddin, the shop owner, that about 8 kilos of gold jewellery worth Rs 10 crores is missing from the shop.In his complaint, the owner claimed that a total of 450 gold items, including 12 gold lockets, 8 gold bracelets, 84 gold bangles, 150 gold necklaces, 65 gold chains, 12 gold anklets, 70 gold rings, 19 gold mangalsutras, 17 gold ear drops, and 13 diamond rings, were missing after the 5-member gang looted the shop at gunpoint.SP N Vishnuvardhana said 5 teams were formed to track down the accused, and the investigation is ongoing.
