City girls summits Mt Everest base camp

Mysuru: The city-based teenager Riya Solanki has summited the Mt Everest base camp.

Riya, Class VIII student of Manasarowar Pushkarini Vidyashrama, reached the base camp, climbing 17,500 feet in mid-October. Having taken to climbing from the age of 8, she first submitted Mt Surya top in 2013. She has also summited Mt Saurkundi Pass in 2014, Mt Rumtu top in 2015, and Mt Kedarkanta in 2016. She had also joined a team of hearing impaired students to realize their dreams and summited Mt Tundda Bhuja earlier this year.

The team, which summited Mt Everest base camp in Nepal, comprised nine mountaineers from Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana. The team left for Kathmandu on October 14 and trekked for over 60km, covering ridges, boulders, landslide-prone regions, hanging bridges, and cold paths. After crossing various mountains, the group came to Khumbhu Glacier and summited the Mt Everest base camp located at a height of 17,500 feet in Nepal, according to a press release from D S D Solanki of Tiger Adventure Foundation.

The team comprised Solanki, Riya, Shreekanth D P Jain, Raghavendra Rao Kashinath Narayan, Sridevi Champati, Shaji Mathew, Benny Mathew, ) and Tara Muniyappa, and the programme was coordinated by Ambrish Joshi of Nagpur.
