CFTRI to host event for women farmers

MYSURU: To empower rural women and to help them hone their skills in food processing, Central Food Training Research Institute (CFTRI) will organize 'Dakshin Bharat Mahila Krishi Jagriti Karyashal' in its premises on August 19.
CFTRI director Ram Rajasekharan said that farmers are "primary entrepreneurs of the world". CFTRI's mission is to support a transformative process addressing improved food security and nutrition security by empowering women farmers with knowledge on food processing."Developing food industries at farm levels is key to fostering sustainability and to help them achieve inclusive and equitable growth, optimizing agriculture and reducing post-harvest wastes," said Rajasekharan.
The programme covers demonstrations of various food-processing technologies like sugarcane juice preservation, papad-making, jam preparation and packaging of cereals. It aims at providing necessary skill sets on food processing.
