MYSURU: Heart valves, liver, kidney, and corneas of a brain-dead mechanical engineer were harvested at a Mysuru hospital on Friday. According to N G Bharateesha Reddy, vice-president of Apollo Hospital (Mysuru unit), Manoj Shankar J, 26, a resident of Hebbal, was brought to the hospital in a critical condition after he met with a road accident late on October 16. He was shifted to the ICU after a scan showed brain-stem infarction.

Majoj was put on life support for two days. He was declared brain-dead due to brain stem failure at 6.50pm on October 20.

Manoj was healthy before the accident, and tests confirmed his eligibility for organ donation. His family was counselled about donation as per protocol. The deceased’s parents Jayshankar and Jayalakshmi offered to donate his organs. Heart valves were sent to Jayadeva Hospital in Bengaluru, corneas to JSS Hospital, Mysuru, while the other two organs were transplanted at Apollo Hospital.
