Boat tragedy at Muttathi: Victim’s body retrieved

MANDYA/MYSURU: The body of a man — who was feared dead two days ago, when a boat capsized in Cauvery river at Muttathi in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district — has been fished out. According to police, Madesh, 29, has died in the accident, while the two others who too were in boat have escaped.

On January 30, three friends went on a boat ride in the river. Madesh went missing after the boat capsized, police said, adding he did not know swimming, while two of his friends swam to safety. The friends screamed for help and also informed police about the incident.

With help from local swimmers, police launched a search operation, and found the body on Wednesday evening, Halaguru police inspector Mahendra said.

Madesh, a resident of Moledoddi village in Kanakapur taluk of Ramanagara district, used to collect parking fees from visitors to Muttathi for a living. A case has been registered at Halaguru police station in Malavalli.
