BJP protests conversion of Hindu graveyards to waqf properties

Mysuru: Former MLA and City BJP president L Nagendra on Thursday contended that the graveyards of Hindus in Gundu Rao Nagar, Kattemalalavadi village in Hunsur taluk, and Rangasamudra in T Narasipura taluk were converted into waqf properties by the Mysuru district administration.
Speaking to reporters, he said that as injustice was meted out to various farmers, several mutts, temples, and SC/STs and Christians, whose properties were declared as waqf properties, the district and city BJP activists would hold a day-long protest outside the office of the deputy commissioner in Siddhartha Nagar on Friday.
He said the state BJP constituted three teams headed by BY Vijayendra, leader of opposition R Ashoka, and opposition leader in the council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy to run the state-wide ‘Namma Bhoomi, Namma Hakku' (Our land, our right) campaign against the waqf notices and submit a report to the party high command.
As part of this campaign, the district BJP unit also set up a helpline by deputing seven members to help farmers, mutts, temples, and other people who received notices to register their complaints. He said the party would continue its fight over the waqf issue.
