Mysuru: Bird Survey 2023 in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve will be held between January 9 and 12. The survey was done last in 2021, said Harshakumar Chikkanaragund, director, Nagarahole Tiger Reserve. Around 450 birding enthusiasts have applied for the survey.
According to the announcement made by the officials, the objective of the survey is to study the bird diversity in various habitats of the nagarahole tiger reserve. Those who are above the age of 18 years and can walk up to 10-15 kilometers are encouraged to apply for the survey.
In 2021, 91 beats undertook the surveyed inside the reserve. The volunteers covered 843.96 square kilometers as part of the survey. 270 species of birds, including aquatic, terrestrial, and aerial, were identified in this survey. Critically endangered species, including red-headed vulture and white-rumped vulture were documented at the time of survey.
Endemic species, including Malabar parakeet, Malabar grey hornbill, white-bellied blue flycatcher, crimson-backed sunbird, and white-bellied tree were spotted at the time of survey.
