Trekkers are back: Trekkers from Karnataka and Kerala, who had gone on an expedition to Kedarkanta Peak (12,500feet) in Uttarakhand, returned home on May 8. The expedition was organized by Tiger Adventure Foundation and International Academy of Mountaineering and Allied Sports. The team, comprising 23 women, 22 men and 7 instructors were from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Kochi and Gwalior, visited Juda Talab, Kedarkanta base, Dhunda, Lama Thatch and Hargaon and Kedarkanta since May 2. En route, they saw Har-ki-dun, Swarga Rohini and Bandar Poonch peaks. They enjoyed 18km white-water rafting in the Ganges. They also visited Forest Research Institute and witnessed the change-of-guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan and visited a museum there.
Nurses Day celebrated: Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) celebrated International Nurses Day themed on 'Nurse a force for change: Improving health systems' recently. Nurses from Mysuru Medical College, KR Hospital, Bharath Cancer Care, River View Hospital, Asha Kiran Hospital and Aashritha Rehabilitation Centre participated in the programme. Notice issued: Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has issued a notice to the department of archaeology and museums. During a visit, the members of the commission found the department violating norms while awarding a tender. According to a press release, commission members M Kumbaiah and N Divakar found that the money set aside for the welfare of SCs and STs was not used, and the tender was awarded, allegedly in violation of norms. "There was nepotism in awarding the tender," the release stated, adding that the notice was issued as it is violation of Article 46 of the Constitution. During their visit to the city May 7 and 10, the members visited Dalit colonies and tribal hamlets.
Karate students triumph: Studetns of martial arts school GI Toku Kai Karate-Do India have won state-level competitions. With their victory, they stand selected for the national-level competition scheduled for May 20 in New Delhi.
