Ananya says, “It all started when we released the song Sojugada Sooju Mallige online, which was well received. That gave me the impetus to form my own band. I believe that folk songs have real energy and are carriers of tradition and folk culture, apart from being a treasure trove of timeless everyday tales. Look at the folk story of Bhagyada Balegara, which narrates the tale of a young married woman who longs to be in her mother’s home, told in an interaction with a bangle-seller, who describes the rural landscape along the way. Duri Duri, for instance, gives us a peek into the lives of tribals in the forest of Karnataka. I felt there is a need to protect and keep these stories alive for future generations, so I decided to establish my band, which will present folk songs with bit of jazz, rock and other creative fusion possibilities.”
