After Independence Savarkar was treated like persona non grata: Vikram Sampath

Mysuru: Conferring Savarkar Samman to writer Vikram Sampath here, writer SL Bhyrappa on Saturday claimed that until 2014 VD Savarkar was being shown in bad light by vested interests. “Several allegations were made against him, but of late truth is coming out,” Bhyrappa said. Savarkar's contribution to the county was covered up by Congress to glorify its own leaders. “Contributions of the true heroes like Savarkar, Subash Chandra Bose etc were sidelined in the country”. Bhyrappa said, “Savarkar gave an apology letter to British rulers accepting the condition that he will not engage in party activities as he was well aware of the politics of Mahatma Gandhi. He does not want to waste his lifetime inside the jail.” Sampath alleged that after Independence Savarkar was treated like persona non grata.
High drama at venue
In a face-off, between the ruling Congress and BJP, over Hindu ideologue VD Savarkar, there were alleged efforts to stop an event organised in KSOU campus. High drama prevailed at the venue on Saturday after the KSOU authorities declined permission to the organisers to conduct the event. Organisers who were upset with the decision of the varsity authorities organised a flash drawing competition outside the varrsity gate. Soon, MP Pratap Simha intervened and facilitated to hold the event as scheduled. tnn
