MYSORE: Hundreds of advocates boycotted court proceedings for the second day and demanded the suspension of inspector Mahadevappa attached to Metagalli police station on Tuesday.
Traffic services were disrupted as advocates blocked the roads in Ramaswamy circle from morning to evening by forming a human chain. Earlier, they held a protest rally from court to Ramaswamy circle.
Irked lawyers alleged that Mahadevappa arrested D N Gangadharappa and has misbehaved with him few days ago.
Gangadharappa and his client Syed Nasir were arrested on November 16 following a complaint by Vijaya, a resident of Metagalli. She accused the duo of harassing and threatening her regarding a civil dispute. Protesters said the allegations against Mahadevappa were false.
Police commissioner Sunil Agarwal’s promise to hold an inquiry against Mahadevappa did not deter them from calling off the protest. They demanded he register an FIR against Mahadevappa and suspend him. JD(S) MLA Sa Ra Mahesh and MLC Sandesh Nagraj came in to support the lawyers protest.
Mysore Bar Association president C Appaji Gowda said the association has filed a complaint against Mahadevappa. “The higher ups of police department should register an FIR against Mahadevappa and should suspend him within 48 hours,” he added.
Agarwal said an inquiry against the inspector is already on. “We have received a complaint from Gangadharappa. If Mahadevappa is found guilty, disciplinary action will be taken against him after the inquiry,” he stated.
