MYSURU: As many as 48 teachers appointed to Mysuru's Yuvaraja College in violation of a government order are likely to lose their jobs, leaving the fate of thousands of students uncertain. Yuvaraja College issued the appointment letters to 48 assistant professors last week. Now, the government has directed the university authorities to scrap the appointments.
This comes close on the heels of the suspension of Mysore University registrar (administration) C Basavaraj and college principal H Nanjegowda for not following the government order on halting the process of hiring assistant professors on a contract basis.
Before he was suspended, Nanjegowda had issued appointment letters to 48 candidates on October 17.
Higher education council (universities) deputy secretary R Somshekar has written to the university registrar (administration) R Rajanna to withdraw all orders on recruitment and submit a report in this regard.
The story so far
The college issued an appointment notification in July and conducted interviews in September and October. About 700 candidates had applied for 48 posts in 15 undergraduate and postgraduate subjects. Save University Forum president KS Shivaramu had questioned the selection, saying it violated the government order and
UGC guidelines. He demanded a probe into the fraudulent exercise.
Within two days of the college issuing appointment letters, the government suspended the varsity registrar and the college principal. Registrar Rajanna confirmed to TOI the government order reached the varsity around Monday noon and said he will act as per the directive.
