MUMBAI: Relatives and friends of Rohan Shah, who died after falling from the terrace of his Shivaji Park building last week, claimed on Monday that Rohan had accidentally fallen off the ledge and could not have committed suicide.
"Rohan was not under pressure and had scored 93% in the ICSE examinations last March. This completely rules out the possibility of a suicide," a close friend of the deceased told TOI on Monday.
"Rohan's parents said it was a freak accident. He had gone to the terrace to read a book, where he lost his balance and fell off. He had not shown any signs of depression or suicidal tendencies of any sort. This has been confirmed by his close friends, their parents and his teachers," the friend added. The incident occurred around 10.30 am.
The building security guard, in his statement, said, "Rohan fell off the roof and landed on a car, which was where I found him."
However, investigators said they were still waiting for the post-mortem report. "But the preliminary report and a visit to the spot led us to suspect that the youth committed suicide," a police official said. "Once the report comes, we will be able to conclude whether it is a case of suicide or an accident," Shivaji Park police officer Suresh Unavne said.
Most of Rohan's friends and immediate family members refused to comment. Even the building security guard, who found the body, refused to talk to TOI.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Aswati Dorje said investigations were on.
