MUMBAI: The marine and preventive wing of the Customs have busted a major smuggling racket and seized electronic gadgets, cellphone accessories and expensive watches with a market value of Rs 5 crore.
Acting on a tip-off the marine and preventive wing led by assistant commissioner
Deepak Pandit and his team intercepted a tempo that was being driven from Chennai to Mumbai.
"On opening of the cartons, we found 10,000 expensive watches of reputed brands, 6,000 video cameras and other gadgets collectively worth around Rs 5 crore," said Pandit. The officials said that they will ascertain whether or not the watches are duplicates.
The goods were imported from China to Chennai and then transported to Mumbai. -S Ahmed Ali
