MUMBAI: A 35-year-old housewife, who helped her husband traffic drugs, was arrested at Dongri by the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of Mumbai police on Sunday.Yasmin Banoo Javed Shaikh, wife of Javed shaikh alias Javed Chikna, was arrested from her residence at Halim Manzil in Dongri on Sunday evening. About 100 gm of charas worth Rs 1,000 was recovered from her possession.Yasmin's role came to light after the ANC arrested one Abdul Jabbar Pathan and recovered 34 kg of charas from him.
During interogation, Pathan confessed he was only transporting the drug and Javed Shaikh, who is absconding, was behind the racket.
The police said the gang used to procure charas from Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh and distribute the drugs to agents in the city. The police said the Shaikhs had been in the trade for the past 10-12 years. In another case, the Narcotics Control Bureau arrested a man with 6 kg of charas near gate 7 of Sion Hospital on Monday.
