MUMBAI: A 43-year-old female police Naik was found dead at her official quarters next to city police head quarters. The woman's body, lying in a pool of blood, was found at the police colony's second floor where she resided with her husband and a nine-year-old son.
"The deceased, Smital Patil, who worked in Mumbai police's special branch (intelligence wing), was found dead.
Her husband, who works with the LIC, returned home at around 6.15 pm on Wednesday and saw her lying in a pool of blood. There is a deep injury on her neck. The sharp weapon used for the injury was not found in the room," said DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni, Mumbai police's spokesperson.
Patil's son had gone to the school. "The incident might have taken much earlier since there blood clotted on the floor. Her body was sent to GT Hospital for a post mortem. We suspect murder. The Azad Maidan police are probing the case," said a police officer.
Patil stayed on the second floor of three-storyed police colony. When her husband arrived home at 6.15 pm he had found the door opened from inside.
