The cash recovered from the accused's wife and brother was the same that had to be stocked up in the ATM on Monday.
Police suspect that Jogale (26) went to his Virar home with the loot. He along with his wife and brother then left for their native town. While it is not clear if the wife and brother were aware about the robbery, they have been giving evasive answers.
Jogale who was employed as a custodian for Scientific Security Management Services Private Limited disappeared with the cash meant for the HDFC Bank's Kaman, Vasai (east) ATM. Jogale reportedly tricked the security guard and driver of the cash van before fleeing with the loot.
The matter came to light on Tuesday when the bank officials found that money had not been stocked in the ATM. They filed a complaint with Valiv police station.
Police who are tracking Jogale's movement say that he is holed up in and around his village.
