MUMBAI: Bombay high court has directed the secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Raigad, to visit the Taloja Central Jail on June 17 to verify the quantity of water supplied to it.
Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Gauri Godse on Tuesday heard a petition by an inmate Abhay Kurundkar, a dismissed police inspector facing trial for the murder of assistant PI Ashwini Bidre. He urged HC to direct Cidco to provide adequate water to the jail as inmates are given only one-and-a-half buckets of water for the entire day. Prosecutor Prajakta Shinde said inmates are given “about 10 buckets of water daily.’’
Seeking the DLSA secretary’s report on June 22, the judges added,“The secretary will also interact with the inmates of Taloja jail and verify the supply of water and the quality of water made available to the inmates.”
