Watch: Passenger slips while boarding moving train in Mumbai, alert RPF officer saves his life
MUMBAI: An alert Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel averted a potential tragedy at Andheri station on February 16 by rescuing a passenger who slipped while trying to board a moving train.
According to officials, Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Pahup Singh was on duty at Andheri station when train number 22927, Lok Shakti Express, began moving after its scheduled halt at platform number 8.
A passenger, identified as Rajendra Mangilal (40), a resident of Andheri’s Seven Bungalows area, attempted to board the train but lost his balance and fell into the gap between the train and the platform.
ASI Singh immediately sprang into action and pulled the man to safety, preventing what could be a fatal accident. Upon inquiry, Mangilal revealed that he was traveling to Ahmedabad and had a valid ticket for the train.
However, he reached the platform late and, in a hurry, tried to board the moving train, leading to the mishap.
Expressing his gratitude, Mangilal thanked ASI Singh for saving his life. The RPF personnel later advised him to board another train safely and ensured he was guided to the Aravali Express, which was also headed to Ahmedabad.
Railway officials have once again urged passengers to avoid boarding or alighting from moving trains, as such attempts often lead to serious injuries or fatalities.
Other incidents of RPF alertness
In a similar incident at Kanpur Central Station, RPF Constable S.R. Godara showcased exceptional vigilance by saving a female passenger from falling into the gap between the train and the platform.
The incident occurred on January 13, when the woman, traveling on the Bhopal-Lucknow-bound Garib Rath Express, lost her balance while deboarding coach G-9 of the moving train. Constable Godara acted swiftly, pulling her to safety and preventing a potentially tragic accident.
Meanwhile, at Kalyan railway station, a 50-year-old passenger suffered severe injuries when he fell between the platform and the moving Vidarbha Express while attempting to alight.
The passenger, identified as Hindola, was travelling illegally in the express train using a suburban travel pass, attempting to avoid the rush-hour crowd and reach his home in Titwala sooner. Tragically, his legs were severed in the accident.
