Watch: CCTV shows Shiv Sena leader's son leaving Mumbai pub before BMW crash
MUMBAI: A CCTV footage showing Mihir Shah, the key accused in a fatal BMW crash in Mumbai, has gone viral amid the search for the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah.
The video captures Mihir Shah leaving a Juhu pub at around 1.15am on Sunday in a Mercedes car with four of his friends before the fatal BMW car crash. He later went to Marine Drive, and the accident occurred at 5.25am while he was returning.
According to the police, Mihir changed cars later and was driving the BMW with his driver in the passenger seat.
The speeding BMW hit a scooter in Worli early Sunday morning, killing Kaveri Nakhwa, a woman who was riding pillion with her husband, Pradip.
The footage surfaced as authorities search for Mihir Shah (24), who is absconding.
Police suspect that Mihir Shah was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Kaveri Nakhwa and her husband Pradip, fisherfolks from Wori Koliwada, were returning on the scooter after buying fish in wholesale near Crawford Market.
The couple was knocked down from the two-wheeler on Dr Annie Besant Road, and both landed on the car bonnet, according to the husband's statement to the police.
The BMW revved up with the two still on the bonnet. The injured man looked for his wife but could not spot her.
She was later found near the Worli-end of the sea link, 2km from the accident spot, and was declared dead before admission at Nair Hospital.
In response to the incident, the police have formed six teams to nab Mihir Shah. The authorities have also arrested Rajesh Shah, Mihir's father, and another person named Raj Rishi Rajendra Singh Vidawat in connection with the case.
Rajesh Shah, is a functionary from Palghar for the Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde faction.
Sources suggest that the two arrested individuals have been taken into custody for not cooperating with the police and under other sections. They will be presented before the court today for further legal proceedings.
