MUMBAI: Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) commissioner Kishore Borde has finally been transferred. He handed over charge to the additional municipal commissioner on Wednesday. The announcement of the new commissioner is awaited.
Borde, who was the first municipal commissioner after the formation of the VVMC in July 2010, had received transfer orders from the state government at least three times in the past.
His transfer was, however, withdrawn.
On Wednesday, Borde finally handed over charge to the VVMC additional municipal commissioner Govind Rathod. Borde is expected to take over his new assignment as deputy municipal commissioner of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation.
The state government had, through a circular dated July 2, announced the name of Subhash Lakhe, private secretary to the rural development minister Jayant Patil as the new VVMC chief. His name was withdrawn the next day.
With former Vasai MLA Hitendra Thakur's Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) party ruling the VVMC, the new commissioner is expected to be a choice of Thakur. Rathod who has worked in the region, is a strong contender for the civic chief's post.
