MUMBAI: Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and eight other candidates were elected unopposed as member of legislative council (MLC) on Thursday for a term of six years till 2026. They will take oath on Monday at Vidhan Bhavan.


Of the total 14, four candidates, two each from BJP and NCP respectively, withdrew their nominations while nomination papers of one of the independent candidate was declared invalid.

On Thursday, the state election office declared all nine candidates elected as MLCs unopposed, including Thackeray, Neelam Gorhe (Shiv Sena), BJP’s Gopichand Padalkar, Praveen Datke, Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil and Ramesh Karad, NCP’s Shashikant Shinde and Amol Mitkari, and Rajesh Rathod of the Congress.
