MUMBAI: To attend or not to attend lunches and dinners hosted by the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena's MPs and ministers — this is the dilemma facing Sena (UBT) MPs in New Delhi. Amid reports that six Sena (UBT) MPs would defect to the Sena, a row has broken out over UBT MPs attending dinner meets and events hosted by Shinde Sena's Union ministers and MPs. During his visit to the national capital, Aaditya Thackeray spoke to MPs and is said to have told them to avoid attending such events or at least take prior permission from the party, since this leads to speculation about possible defection.

Political observers said this kind of dinner diplomacy and meetings were common in Delhi, especially during Parliament sessions, and guests cut across political lines. Stopping MPs from attending such events was impossible and pointless, they said.
