MUMBAI : The anti-corruption bureau of the CBI on Thursday arrested two incometax officials for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for issuing a cheque for excess advance tax paid by a tax-payer.

MUMBAI : The anti-corruption bureau of the CBI on Thursday arrested two incometax officials for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for issuing a cheque for excess advance tax paid by a tax-payer.
The complainant, Amit Kumar Mishra, registered a written complaint with the CBI on May 7 alleging that I-T officer K.G.
Pote had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for issuing a Rs 17,000 cheque due to him for excess advance tax paid for the previous year.

He alleged that a part of the cheque payment would be made on Thursday and that Pote had asked him to pay a token sum of Rs 3,000. The remaining Rs 2,000 was supposed to be paid with the subsequent cheque for the remainder amount.
The CBI laid the trap and nabbed Pote and junior tax assistant Mr Gaonkar with the bribe money. Both of them have been arrested by the CBI and will be produced before a special CBI judge.
Congratulating Mr Mishra for having stood up against corruption, the CBI has appealed to citizens not to concede to the demands of corrupt public servants and to report the matter to the SP CBI Mumbai at 11-A, Tanna House, N.P. Road, Colaba Mumbai-400039, or on tel no. 22884433 and 22884466.
