ALIBAUG: A court in Maharashtra's Raigad district has sentenced two men to 10 years in prison after convicting them for raping a woman nearly four years ago. Principal District Sessions Judge A S Rajandekar, in his ruling on Wednesday, also fined Suresh Lahanu Naik and Vishal Krishna Mhatre Rs 10,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Naik and Mhatre focused on the woman on December 19, 2020, in Alibaug taluka as she was heading to her daughter's residence on a hilly path. They compelled her to drink alcohol and alternated in sexually assaulting her.
Relatives of the woman attempted to intervene, but the two men assaulted them with stones, as stated by public prosecutor Smita Dhumal Patil in court.
After listening to both arguments, the court found Naik and Mhatrea guilty and gave them a 10-year jail sentence.
In total, 15 witnesses gave testimony in the court throughout the trial.
