MUMBAI: A two-feet long baby crocodile was found by a sanitation worker in a BMC-run swimming pool at Dadar at around 5.30am on Tuesday.
The incident happened during the routine inspection of the Mahatma Gandhi Jaltaran Talao, which is an Olympic-sized swimming pool, just before it was scheduled to open for the day.
The BMC issued a statement explaining that the baby crocodile had been rescued with the assistance of experts.
Furthermore, they announced their intention to hand over the reptile to the forest department for its release back into its natural habitat.
Deputy municipal commissioner Kishor Gandhi emphasized that an investigation was underway to determine how the crocodile ended up in the swimming pool. Depending on the findings, appropriate action would be taken.
Sandeep Vaishampayan, the coordinator responsible for the swimming pool and auditoriums, clarified that the BMC's diligent staff routinely inspected swimming pools before allowing members to use them. He recounted the extraordinary discovery of the crocodile in the Olympic-sized pool in Dadar at 5.30am and emphasized that swift action had been taken to safely capture the reptile with the assistance of experts.
The process to transfer it to the forest department was already in progress.
