Vinayak’s family told Valiv police that their father could have committed suicide and a case of accidental death was registered.
However, post-mortem report revealed that the stab wounds weren’t self-inflicted. Police then grilled the family members and the two brothers Vikram (26) and Nitesh (28) confessed to the crime, said sources.
They told interrogators that they had planned to kill their father as he often came home drunk and beat up their mother. He would even insult her in public on several occasions, the brothers said.
The brothers then roped in their brother-in-law Premanand Borkar (40) and cousin Hitesh Bhoir, also residents of Juchandra village, and hatched the murder plan, said police. On December 20, the four of them took Vinayak for a stroll at 3pm and when they reached the marshy land in their locality, stabbed him to death, said police. They left the knife in the abdomen and also an identification card in his pocket to help police identify the body.
Their mother was unaware about the murder plot, said police.
The four accused have been booked for murder and remanded in police custody.
