Two bikers beat up bus driver, held

MUMBAI: In a case of road rage, two bikers allegedly dragged a BEST bus driver and beat him up on Tuesday afternoon near Electric House in Colaba.
The Colaba police arrested the accused, Ravindra Patil and Anil Gaikwad, both residents of Colaba. The BEST driver is believed to have rashly over took one of the bikers. The duo chased the bus and stopped their bike in front of the bus. The duo then began arguing with the bus driver, Rohedas Kute, and punched him. They fled from the spot after beating up Kute. The victim approached the Colaba police station and lodged a case against the two accused. Kute was taken to St. George Hospital. He was discharged after first-aide treatment.
Said BEST spokesperson Virendra Bagul, "While the exact provocation for the assault is not known, it seems the two men were irritated with the bus driver and pulled him out of the vehicle near Electric House (Colaba causeway) and assaulted him. Our security guards, posted at the BEST headquarters in Electric House, came to the rescue of Kute. The Colaba police station is at a stone"s throw distance and the duo was booked for obstructing a public servant on duty and attacking him." Bagul added that the passengers in the bus were shifted in another bus and taken to their destination. The two accused were produced in the court on Wednesday and released on bail.
