Truck overturns during repair work causes massive traffic jams on Ghodbunder ghat near Mumbai

Thane: Massive traffic jams gripped the stretch on Sunday after a truck carrying 17 tonnes of industrial parts overturned amid ongoing by the (MBMC) near Gaimukh Ghat. The chaos led to long snarls from Sasunavghar to Kajupada on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad highway, leaving commuters stranded for hours.The MBMC recently resumed long-pending repairs between the Indian Oil petrol pump and Nira Centre, resulting in the full closure of one lane from Oct 11 midnight to Oct 14 midnight. With both-way traffic sharing a single lane and being released in 20-minute intervals, the situation turned worse when a truck overturned near the Hanuman Temple at Gaimukh Ghat. Police said the vehicle, carrying 17 tonnes of company parts, overturned due to the narrow passage. No injuries were reported.The incident caused gridlock lasting over five hours, with frustrated commuters stepping out of buses and even playing dandiya on the road to beat the boredom. Many questioned why heavy vehicles were allowed on the already burdened route during repair work. Some of them even began playing dandiya on the road to vent their frustration and pass the time.Thane Police have urged motorists to avoid the stretch until repairs and vehicle clearance are completed. Officials said additional personnel have been deployed to ease traffic flow.
