MUMBAI: A day after three youths were arrested for abducting a 20-year-old girl in broad daylight from Bandra's National College premises on Wednesday, the police are claiming that the accused had admitted to have hatched the sensational plan just 24 hours in advance. The youths, Nasir Hussain Ahmed Khan (22), Saif Iqbal Batliwala (21) and Hussain Qureshi (21), were nabbed in Dahisar while trying to flee with the abducted girl, Amani Gholap, in a black Hyundai car.
The trio was caught after some eyewitnesses alerted the police.
According to the police, Nasir loved Amani but she did not reciprocate his feelings. A spurned Nasir then decided to take Amani out and convince her that he truly loved her.Incidentally, during the course of interrogations, Nasir told the police that he did not know Saif. "It was Nasir's friend Hussain who introduced Saif to him. Saif and Hussain are friends and study together at Rizvi college. When Nasir came to know that Amani's parents had fixed up her engagement with a Pune-based man, he got upset. He told Hussain that if could take Amani out, he could make her realise that he loved her truly,'' a police official said."On Tuesday, the trio hatched the plot to abduct the girl. Saif was asked to bring his car. They knew that Amani's cousin, Wajid, left her to the college in a bike. To avoid Wajid tailing them after abducting Amani, the accused even hid his bike,'' the official added.Nasir further told the police that he phoned Amani on her birthday to wish her. "But Amani refused to take his calls. A desperate Nasir then decided to abduct her on the last day of her exams,'' an investigating officer said. All the three youths have been remanded to police custody till March 11.Meanwhile, Wajid has alleged that some relatives of trio barged into his office at Khatija apartment at Bazaar Road on Thursday destroyed his computer and furniture. "We have filed a complaint with the Bandra police station and we will see that the accused are brought to justice,'' he said.
