MUMBAI: Around 20 trees, including Peltophorum, Subabul, and Peepal, have been found dead, with an attempt made to destroy them using poison on the Ghatkopar Eastern Expressway, in front of the railway petrol pump.
Krishna Lambe, a Mumbai Municipal Corporation officer from the 'N Ward' Parks Department, discovered a drill machine on the stumps of around 20 trees during the inspection of the incident site. Toxic chemicals were used to destroy the trees, with 5 to 6 holes found on each tree, where toxic chemicals were poured.
The leaves of the trees have fallen, and all the branches of the trees have completely dried up, leading to the death of the trees.
The Pantnagar Police Station has registered a case against an unknown person under Section 21 and 8 of the Maharashtra Trees Protection and Preservation Act, 1975.
