Mumbai: A 22-year-old man duped a Nalasopara trader of Rs 5 lakh by promising to get old currency notes exchanged. Sanjay Jain filed a complaint with Virar police on Tuesday after searching for Vikas Jha for five days.
According to police, Jha, who claimed to be a resident of Suram Park, Virar (east), approached Jain on November 16 offering to get old notes exchanged with the help of the manager of a cooperative bank.
Jain handed over Rs 25,000 in old notes to Jha, who returned with Rs 2,000 notes within hours.
The next day, Jain and his brother Dilip gave Jha Rs 5 lakh. Jha told them to wait till he returned with the new notes, and vanished.
