police on October 19 based on a complaint that was filed by the owner of Swagat Dining Bar in Santacruz (East). Yadav used his shirt to hang himself and the incident was witnessed by other jail inmates at around 4pm, said the Bandra police.

The case was registered after the hotel owner found out that Yadav was recently arrested by the MHB police last week for stealing a customer's debit card which was given to him for making bill payment. "Yadav worked at Swagat Dining Bar in July from where he fled away after stealing the debit card belonging to a customer and withdrew Rs50,000 in four instalments from the bank's ATM," said Vakola police senior inspector Mahadeo Wavale.


Wavale said Yadav fled away when the customer along with few friends partied at the Santacruz hotel in July. "The customer gave his debit card to make Rs2500 bill and also gave him the 4-digit pin. Yadav immediately fled away and withdrew money. The hotel owner compensated the customer with the money. The hotelowner also alerted about the incident with their hotel association," he said. Shekhar had confessed with the MHB police that he has duped at least 12 people, but at least 15 cases are thought have been registered against him in Mumbai and Thane. He is suspected to have withdrawn at least Rs 5 lakh from his victims' accounts.
