Thane school shifts to online classes till June 28 following health scare among students

Thane: The Smt Sunitidevi Singhania School on Wednesday announced that it has switched to online classes until the end of the month and has rescheduled its exam dates amid a suspected health scare among students. The development came a day after parents and elected representatives complained about several students and teachers contracting malaria and dengue allegedly due to mosquito breeding on the stagnated water on the campus and its neighbourhood.The school clarified that reports of students affected by dengue were ‘baseless' and with vested interests. "We adopted all remedial and precautionary measures recommended by Thane Municipal Corporation's health department, who found no evidence of mosquito breeding here," said a school functionary, adding that adequate precautions, like installing mosquito nets on windows, will be done before June 30. "We have shifted to the online mode for all students till June 28. Unit tests have been rescheduled for Class 6 to 10 and cancelled for Class 5," the functionary added. Dr Prasad Patil, a medical health officer of Thane Municipal Corporation, said they have fumigated the school premises and advised the administration to take adequate precautions.
