THANE: An 18-year-old college student was found dead on the railway tracks between Mulund and Thane on Monday evening. The police are probing the cause of death.
Pankaj Kadam, a student of Dnyansadhana College in Thane, was found with fatal injuries around 4pm near Kopri bridge. A police source said Kadam was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.
A receipt found on the victim revealed his identity, said the police. It is not clear why Kadam, a resident of Lokmanya Nagar in Thane, had ventured onto the tracks. “We will talk to his family and college friends for answers,” said an officer.
In another incident, Mahendra Shetti, a Kalwa resident, was injured after falling off a train near Thane station on Monday morning. Another commuter Suresh C, a retired railway employee, was found unconscious at Thane station on around 10.40am.
