MUMBAI: Matoshree has nominated
Aditya Thackeray's close confidante Rahul Narvekar, a suave lawyer from Colaba whose fluency in English is a talking point in the
Shiv Sena, for the legislative council elections scheduled for February 25. Narvekar claimed that Sena's poll ally, the
BJP, has "wholeheartedly" backed his candidature.
Narvekar is one of the key functionaries of the Yuva Sena, Aditya Thackeray's latest outfit to mobilize GenNow voters.
Aditya is Bal Thackeray's grandson.
Narvekar's nomination for the crucial council elections indicates a generational shift in the Sena. Aditya is set to play a stellar role in the selection of candidates for the 2012 BMC elections, say political observers. While admitting that he is "closely linked" with the Yuva Sena, Narvekar said, "However, I am not new to the Sena. I was the party's candidate for the 2004 assembly elections from the Colaba constituency." His father, Suresh was a Sena corporator in the 1980s.
Narvekar belongs to Aditya's inner circle which also includes Amol Kirtikar, Adinath Mangeshkar, melody queen Lata Mangeshkar's nephew, Abhijit Adsul, MLA and a pilot, and TV personality Aadesh Bandekar.
Interestingly, Narvekar will take on
NCP nominee and former Shiv Sainik Kiran Pawaskar in the council elections. Pawaskar quit Sena recently and joined Sharad Pawar- led NCP as he felt he was being ignored by Matoshree.
