NAVI MUMBAI: In a road rage incident on Palm Beach Road at Ghansoli on Thursday, a woman accompanied by her 5-year-old son while travelling in her car towards Koparkhairane was waylaid by three drunk men on a bike. After her car was about to graze their bike, an argument ensued between them. One of the three men broke her car's windshield with an iron rod. As the woman raised an alarm, she was also attacked with the iron rod. To save her son from getting hurt, she shielded the attack with her hand and sustained an injury.
Due to the commotion, a huge crowd gathered at the spot and rescued the woman and her son. The three assailants were beaten up by the crowd, and the Rabale police were informed. Two of the assailants sped away on the bike, while the third one was detained until the cops arrived and arrested him.
Balkrushna Sawant, senior inspector of Rabale, informed that the complainant, Nikita Handore (37), a resident of Koparkhairane, along with her minor son, was returning home after attending an inauguration program at Ghansoli. She had made her son sit with her on the driving seat, and while driving the car, her son was holding the steering and the car slightly veered to the left. She was about to graze a bike passing by, but she took control of the wheel. However, three men on the bike signalled her to halt, and as she slowed down, they parked the bike in front of her car and argued with her claiming that she was about to hit their bike and could have caused them injury.
Inspector Sawant said, "The woman also argued with the three men, and it escalated and turned violent. One of the three men brandished an iron rod and broke her car windshield. She told them repeatedly that the attack with the iron rod could kill her minor son, but the assailants, who were under the influence of alcohol, were reluctant and then attacked the woman with the iron rod."
The arrested accused has been identified as Paresh Patel (25), a resident of Ghansoli. The accused Patel and his two absconding aides are contract workers at a packaging industrial unit in Rabale MIDC. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of BNS for attempting to commit culpable homicide, wrongful restraint as the voluntary obstruction of a person, preventing them from proceeding in any direction they have the right to, and for committing mischief and thereby causing loss or damage to the amount of twenty thousand rupees and more but less than one lakh rupees. As Patel was under the influence of alcohol, we shall also invoke the Motor Vehicle Act for drunk driving. We have launched a manhunt for the other two accused.
