MUMBAI: Even as police are probing allegations of the sale of Coldplay tickets at inflated prices, an 18-year-old teenager from Chunabhatti and his friends collectively lost Rs 2.2 lakh to cyber fraudsters while trying to buy tickets online for the Jan concert.
In the FIR, the victim alleged he had booked 24 tickets worth Rs 2.2 lakh but later discovered the tickets were fake.
The teen said that while searching for concert tickets online, he found a contact number that appeared legitimate. He initially paid Rs 7,000 via UPI to secure a ticket for himself.
When his friends also expressed interest, he shared the number, leading them to purchase 24 tickets collectively, paying Rs 2.17 lakh in total.
The scammers provided the teen and his friends with fake email confirmation from the address ‘confirmation@book-my-show.co', which, he said, resembled the official BookMyShow domain. He only became suspicious when a relative pointed out discrepancies in the email address. Realising they had been scammed, the teen approached the police to file an official complaint.
EOW had initiated a preliminary inquiry into a complaint filed by advocate Amit Vyas against BookMyShow, which accused the platform of involvement in ticket scalping.
Simultaneously, BookMyShow lodged a separate FIR at Vile Parle police station against unknown individuals involved in selling tickets in the black market.
