Teen ends life, kin allege sexual abuse

MUMBAI: The family of an SSC student (16) who committed suicide in Kasara has alleged that she was sexually abused by one of her classmates. The victim set herself ablaze on Saturday.
The family has said the victim had been depressed since Thursday after she returned from classes. She had reached home three hours late and looked scared, they claimed.“We asked her the reason for being upset, but she refused to reveal anything,” said a family member. “On Friday, too, she seemed upset. We asked her several times but she did not say anything. On Saturday, she set herself on fire,” said victim’s elder sister. “We feel she was sexually abused by a friend, following which she took the step.”
The family has approached the police. P V Kasbe, Kasara police station in-charge, said, “The autopsy report does not reveal any sexual assault but we are questioning her friend.”
