Teen arrested for chain-snatching

KALYAN: A 19-year-old youth was arrested for chain-snatching in Kalyan west on Thursday night. Bhiwandi resident Sayed Abdul Hameed Farooqi was caught him in the act by people and he was handed over to the police. Farooqi's two friends managed to escape in an autorickshaw.
The Bazarpeth police said the incident occurred on Thursday night around 9.30 pm when victim, Jagruti Jagganath Gavankar, was going with her daughter Pragya to Apex hospital situated near Parnaka area in Kalyan west.Farooqi attacked Jagruti and snatched her 10 gram gold chain but locals gathered at a distance suspected something wrong on witnessing the scene and gathered around Farooqi.
According to Shahajirao Mane, police sub-inspector from Bazarpeth police staion, “on seeing the mob around, Farooqui panicked and tried to threaten them but alert mob overpowered him and recovered stolen mangalsutra". "Before Farooqi could escape, the locals thrashed him and handed him over to the policemen who on petrolling who was reached at same time on spot," said Chandrakant Thorat, senior police inspector, Bazarpeth police station.
