A software engineer was cheated of Rs 6.3 lakh by a cyberfraudster who pretended to buy second-hand furniture from him online. The Vanrai police have registered an FIR.The 32-year-old complainant is a resident of Goregaon East.

Mumbai: A software engineer was cheated of Rs 6.3 lakh by a cyberfraudster who pretended to buy second-hand furniture from him online. The Vanrai police have registered an FIR.
The 32-year-old complainant is a resident of Goregaon East. He had placed an advertisement on an online classifieds portal to sell his cupboard for Rs 4,000. A man called him and expressed interest in buying the cupboard.

The fraudster sent the complainant a QR code and asked him to scan it. When he did so, the complainant received Rs 2 in his bank account.
The fraudster then sent another QR code and asked the complainant to scan it again. But this time, the complainant lost money in three transactions. When the complainant confronted him over phone, the latter shared his bank account details. He asked the complainant to link his own account for getting a refund. When the complainant followed his instructions, he lost more money, police said. tnn
