MUMBAI: A 30-year-old engineer from Dombivli has accused her husband-a Bengaluru-based software engineer-of allegedly forcing her to have "unnatural sex" with him for refusing to wear a burkha. The Vishnu Nagar police have registered a criminal case under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code against the 34-year-old man who works in a leading IT company in Bengaluru.
Sub-inspector (Vishnu Nagar) Bhaskar Renuke said, "We will send a team to Bengaluru to arrest the accused."
Nafisa and Ilyaz got married in April 2012. and initially lived in Dombivli.
In her complaint, Nafisa said her troubles started soon after the marriage when the couple went to Kullu and Manali for honeymoon. Nafisa has alleged that Ilyaz started harassing her for not wearing a burkha and would look at her suspiciously each time she answered her friends' phone calls. Nafisa told her husband that she was an educated woman and did not like wearing a burkha.
Nafisa claimed that even as the couple's fight over wearing a burkha continued, Ilyaz forced her to have "unnatural sex" with him with an intention to harass her. When the Three months after the wedding, Ilyaz and Nafisa shifted to Bengaluru, and her torture continued, Nafisa moved back to her parents' house in Dombivli. A few days ago, Ilyaz told her that he was planning to remarry.
"The victim had initially lodged said she still loved her husband and had therefore lodged a complaint of harassment against him. on February 28. When the police inquired about the exact reason, she admitted that Ilyaz used to force her to have unnatural sex as she had refused to wear a burkha," said an officer. The police then recorded a fresh statement and booked Ilyaz for harassing Nafisa over dowry and under section 377.
