Tamil film council bans Bollywood cine corporations
MUMBAI: The Tamil Film Producers ' Council (TFPC) has banned all Bollywood film corporations from making Tamil films.
Asked why Bollywood film corporations have been banned, a Tamil producer said, "The TFPC members feel that Bollywood film corporations have been over-paying actors/technicians , buying movies at exorbitant prices and have virtually brought penury upon several independent film-makers .

To avoid a similar fate, we have decided to keep outsiders at bay.''
Munnish Puri, COO, Mirchi Movies, said, "We were the first to make a foray into the Tamil cinema. Our film Velli Therai was released a few months ago.'' But till date, trade sources confirmed , Mirchi Movies has not got the status of a producer down south. Mirchi Movies had partnered with Tamil actor Prakash Raj and Moser Baer on Velli Therai, but the publicity material for the film showed only Raj's name as the producer . "My name and that of G Dhananjay of Moser Baer had to be deleted from the credits,'' lamented Puri.
Following in the footsteps of Mirchi Movies, even Eros International , Adlabs and UTV Motion Pictures had ventured into the Tamil movie market.
UTV had released Poi Solla Porom (PSP) - a Tamil remake of Bollywood film Khosla Ka Ghosla - in September. The publicity material of PSP bore the name of Ronnie Screwvala, head honcho of UTV Motion Pictures, as the producer along with that of south Indian director Priyadarshan. According to sources, this did not go down well with the members of the TFPC who convened a meeting to discuss the issue.
Ram Mirchandani, COO, UTV Rampage Motion Pictures, said, "One has to register with the TFPC before making a Tamil film or partner with someone from there. We had Priyadarshan as our partner from the beginning.''
