MUMBAI: The city witnessed a significant weather shift on Sunday with a eight-degree drop in day temperatures observed within a span of only two days. On Sunday, the maximum temperature recorded stood at 28.8 degrees Celsius which was a stark contrast to the 37.2 degrees Celsius recorded just two days earlier on March 1.

At 28.8 degrees on Sunday the day temperatures were four degrees below normal.

Interestingly there was also a very little difference between day and night temperatures on Sunday. The minimum temperatures recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory stood at 24.4 degrees which was four degrees above normal.

All through the past week as well the day temperatures have continued to stay on the higher side. However on the weekend a sudden dip was witnessed. While the IMD Santacruz observatory recorded day temperatures of 28.8, the IMD Colaba observatory recorded day temperatures of 30.3 degrees which was one degree below normal. Minimum temperatures meanwhile recorded by the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 23.3 degrees and 24.4 degrees which was two and four degrees above normal.

Weathermen are forecasting a further dip in night temperatures on Monday. " Next 12 hours will be one of the coldest spells for Mumbai as minimum temperatures will slip below 20 degrees by tomorrow morning!," said Rushikesh Agre, a certified meteorologist from Harvard University who posts on the X handle Mumbai Rains.
