Stricter action on use of non-degradable plastic flowers: Maha CM

Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told the state assembly on Friday that the state would issue a clearer order regarding the ban on use of non-biodegradable plastic flowers."This is an important issue. We will issue clearer orders on it," said Fadnavis. He said the new rules would apply to decorators who use plastic flowers for events. "Those who use non-biodegradable plastic flowers will face action," said the CM.
The issue was raised in the state assembly by BJP MLA Vikram Pachpute and NCP SP leader Jayant Patil. They pointed out that the use of plastic flowers was ruining the prospects of farmers engaged in floriculture.State environment minister Pankaja Munde said there was a ban on the use of non-biodegradable plastic in the state. The state found 92,000 violations, leading to recovery of 4,135 tonnes of plastic scrap in the last 4-5 years, she said.
