The state government on Wednesday offered jobs to medal winning sportspersons in the state.

MUMBAI: The state government on Wednesday offered jobs to medal winning sportspersons in the state.
Eight sportspersons including swimmer Veerdhaval Khade, hockey player Dhananjay Mahadik, wrestler Narsing Yadav, shooter Navnath Phartade and national kabaddi players Pankaj Shirsat, Nitin Ghule, Snehal Salunkhe and Deepika Joseph were offered jobs in the class A category.

These players had excelled for the national team in the Asian and Commonwealth games. A state committee headed by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan decided to offer most of these players a choice between two posts in the class A category. The committee also approved applications of four other players, including Suhas Khamkar (body building), Deepali Kulkarni, Satish Patade, and Sandeep Awari (power lifting) who have done well in other sports events, for jobs in the class B category.
The state cabinet had earlier decided to reserve 5% posts for sportspersons who had excelled in their field of sport.
